You don't need 30 minutes of silence. Mindfulness fits into things you already do.
Many people give up on mindfulness because they picture long silent sittings. In DBT mindfulness is a skill, not a meditation format: notice, describe, stay with it – even for 60 seconds.
Anchors in your day
Attach the practice to something you do daily. Habit replaces discipline.
Stairs: count each step, feel the pressure in your soles
First sip of coffee or tea: just drink, nothing alongside
Door handle: one deep breath before entering the room
Washing hands: 20 seconds of water and hands only
Describe instead of judge
"Warm, smooth, a slight pull in the neck" is description. "Disgusting, I'm doing it wrong" is judgment. That difference is the actual training effect – not calmness.
Drifting off is part of it
The mind wanders – every time. The skill is coming back, not staying. Coming back twenty times means twenty repetitions of practice.
